TV Meta Data Finder

Download: TVMetaDataFinder from CodePlex

New Features: Adds all banner art!

TV Meta Data Finder is a utility used to once replace Sam Saffrons Scraper because at one point the API for thetvdb has changed. (The script tvdb_scraper.rb is found on the site: http://www.samsaffron.com/downloads/2, it was recently updated so its now usable also.)

Features:

  • This is a compleate rebuild of the application, everything is faster, and no more hangups
  • User interface that allows you to choose the directory of where you would like to start the indexing of your TV Shows
  • Works very well with Sams Video Browser (I am also on the development team for that)
  • You can choose the format to rename the files as it is being indexed
  • Gets the meta data and images for the TV shows
  • Adds Banner Art
  • NEW!!! Custom file name formats
  • NEW!!! Creates a thumbnail image of the video if no images are found on the server
  • Bug Fixed: Series.XML to have an attribute of Series instead of Item for its meta data
  • Bug Fixed: Hangup issues

Install:

The .NET Framwork 3.5 is required
Microsoft .NET Framwork 3.5

Future Additions

  • No longer dependent on directory structures for the names of the TV Shows, and the Season just as long as the file contains that data, otherwise it will skip the file.
  • Let me know if you have any other suggestions/bugs

Download away… :)

    Hello everyone.

I just wanted to let everyone know that I have published this application on CodePlex, so if anyone would like to become a developer, please post here if you have any code to contribute.

I haven’t had much time, and it doesn’t look like i will have a lot of time to update the client application.

This will add a lot of features. This will allow for anyone to issue an issue report/ticket/etc… So if you want any features added, bugs fixed, you can post to that, and any developer can apply the fix. Also you can vote on what issue should be fixed first.

I will be able to focus more on the web service that this application will then connect to instead of it connecting directly to thetvdb for its data.

    Please post any comments there.

Also morpheus2n2, to answer your question, the directory structure you are using is invalid: Star Trek\The Next Generation

You should use this: Star Trek - The Next Generation\Season 1\xxxxx.avi

Just letting everyone who is using this, I have finally had a few weekends to get the new server up and running. The new server is going to be dedicated to hosting the meta data and clip art.

This will allow me to resume in building the 2.0 version that will post on CodePlex soon.

It would be nice if it would rename the subtitle files also…….. >:P

An annoying problem that I found:
TV Meta Data Finder seems to work with the first near match show name that it finds. EG: A folder named CSI (for CSI: Crime Scene Investigation) will be matched as CSI Miami. Consequently all files in that folder are renamed incorrectly. I have renamed the folder to fix this, but might it be handy to have the program prompt you to confirm when more than one match is found? It could then perhaps remember the choice made for future scans.
